A Journey Towards Hope
This large format color portfolio captures underground railroad and abolitionist meeting sites in Northeastern Ohio. I took these photographs at night in order to place the viewer in the perspective of a slave seeking shelter. Generally they are taken of the side or back entrance to a home. Because these pictures are taken with long exposures, ranging from twenty minutes to three hours, they all show a shift in color called reciprocity failure which reveals a range of colors that cannot be predicted. By using this long exposure process, I hope to reveal a reality that exists but cannot otherwise be seen.
